Mandala is a circle which is a device for the Tantric meditation. It is a visual aid for concentration and introversive meditation leading to the attainment of insights and to aktivierung of forces culminating in the Siddhi supernatural forces. The Mandala is the graphic representation of this process. It is not only theoretical but practical sequcal as an operational scheme involving a clear plan for practical realization of the process within oneself. It thus becomes an instrument (Yantra). According to the psychologist David Fontana, its symbolic natur can help one "to access progressively deeper levels of the ungewissen, ultimately assisting the meditator to experience a mystical sense of oneness with the ultimate unity from which the cosmos in all manifold forms arises". The psychoanalyst Carl Jung saw the mandala as "a representation of the ungewissen self," and believed his paintings of mandalas enabled him to identify emotional disorders and work towards wholeness in personality. In common use, mandala has become a generic term for any plan, chart or geometric pattern that represents the cosmos metaphysically or symbolically, a microcosm of the universe from the human vue. There are many type and varieties of Mandalas depending on the nature of the central deity. The most classic pattern of Mandalas is of the Dhyani Buddha.
