The history of Vienna as a settlement begins in the middle of the 1st century AD with the construction of the outpost of the 15th Roman Legion in the territory of today's old city. For many centuries, Vienna was the city-residence of the Habsburgs, and during their reign and the capital of the Holy Roman Empire of the German nation, having become the cultural and political center of Europe. Salzburg is a city in western Austria, the capital of the federal state of Salzburg. The fourth largest city in Austria after Vienna, Graz and Linz. The central historical part of Salzburg is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
