Famous Suffragist: Sojourner Truth

Sojourner Truth, 1797-1883, was a true leader in both Civil and Women's Rights. Born into slavery, she escaped and went on to become a prominent minister, abolitionist, suffrage leader, and orator. Her most famous speech is simple and clear. At the Akron Ohio Women's Rights Convention in 1851 her brief but powerful speech, "Ain't I a women?" rocked the house and has continued to resonate through history.
