Old Collection Margaret Enid Johnson Porter

Margaret Enid Johnson Porter, MEJP, serene country scenes, Midwest American Folk Art. Her son, Len Porter, my dad's 1st cousin, gave me his permission to post her work under her name Margaret Enid Johnson Porter and MEJP. She was my paternal grandma's sister. The Johnson Farm is here in the Central Illinois area in Knox County in the area of Haw Creek Township near Knoxville, Illinois. Her mother, my Great Grandma Clara (Claire) Sage Talla Johnson was 100% Norwegian because all four of her grandparents immigrated from Norway in the mid 1800s. My great grandma's paternal grandfather immigrated from Norway where he was born on Talla / Talle Farm. So my great grandma's great grandparents lived and died at Talla / Talle Farm in Luster Fjord valley, the inner-most branch of Sogn Fjord / Sognefjorden. Talla / Talle Farm was known for its fruit trees and berry bushes and for its jams and jellies. This farm has significance to our family going back at least 430 years (as I write this in 2023) from 1593 when ancestors Anders Lauritzson and Maren Heiberg Fuhr Ronnei were married there ... the farm then was owned by Anders' brother Sofren Lauritzson Heiberg af Talle. My great grandma's great grandparents Nils Nilssen Hillestad and Susanna Christophersdatter Nitter took as their last name Talle (later becoming Talla) after the name of the farm in Norway where they lived and died. I am now age 71 as I am writing this in 2023. My great aunt Margaret loved to paint serene country scenes ... especially known for her midwest American Folk Art work ... She used the same style here for the Talla / Talle Farm in Norway.
