Chicken Fried Poetry

Kosher was born on August 27, 1982 in Alice, Texas, but moved to Oklahoma City with his family when he was only 4 years old. Like many others Kosher entered the world of poetry at a late age, it started when he was 22 years old where he went to a poetry reading where he decided that he would sign up for the first time at an open mic. Little did he know that on that night the venue was having a poetry slam so he paid $3 to sign up thinking that it was for the open mic but instead signed up for the slam. However, much to his surprise and being on any stage for the very first time Kosher took home third place. Since then he has been on two slam teams where he represented the Oklahoma City Slam Team in Albuquerque 2005 and Austin 2007. Kosher was also the Oklahoma Slam Champion for 2007. In 2008 again slammed for a spot to represent his beloved Oklahoma City's at iWPS 2008(International World Poetry Slam), There Kosher placed in the top 60 poets of the world. Kosher is also a co-founder of “Stomp The Stage” a community outreach organization dedicated to using the performing arts as a method of youth mentoring and crime prevention. Within this organization Kosher has performed at many Oklahoma City area High Schools. After a performance at Harding Fine Arts Academy one of the administrators asked him if he was willing to teach Poetry at their high school. A few weeks later he started his first semester in a 9 week course to teach the art of performance poetry to high school students in an after school program. In 2008 Kosher started taking his craft to another level. He decided that poetry meant more to him then just words; with this in mine he began starting to tour the country spreading his messages through the words that touch your soul.
