Über mich/uns

Since being told stories in school about the first Thanksgiving, followed by subsequent stories of how Native Americans were slaughtered, I've had mixed feelings about the holiday -- mostly because my great-grandmother was part Cherokee. She looked, to my young eyes, more American Indian than white. My father also carried some of those traits. Jet black hair, belied by sky blue eyes but he would turn this gorgeous mahogany in summer because of the time he spent in the sun. So, our celebration of Thanksgiving has nothing to do with Pilgrims or Native Americans or the history of the holiday. It has to do with today . . . and all of the ways we have been blessed; all that we have to be thankful for . . . so we give thanks.
